Fantastic Scan Quality and Easy to Use
The scan quality is fantastic, though this is a first scanner and there is little basis for comparison. It is easy to use, and the 3D prints of the scans look great. For anyone considering the Metro X, it would definitely be purchased again.
Pros
- + fantastic scan quality
- + easy to use
- + 3D prints of scans look great
Cons
- − limited basis for comparison as first scanner

Works Right Out of the Box for 3D Printing
This first 3D scanner is used for CAD designs and 3D printing. Setup is straightforward: plugging in, installing software, and running an auto turntable scan of the included model all go smoothly. Processing a scan manually is possible, and an STL file can be exported and dropped into slicer software to print an exact copy. The kit quality is very good and includes everything needed to get started. The software runs without issues on an M3 Pro MacBook Pro. Results should improve with more experience.
Pros
- + works right out of the box
- + easy setup and software installation
- + successful STL export for 3D printing
- + good overall kit quality
- + runs without issues on M3 Pro MacBook Pro
Cons
- − manual processing results are not great due to inexperience

Not Ideal for Flat, High-Detail Scanning
This scanner is not recommended for scanning flat items that require high detail or accuracy. The stated 0.01mm accuracy may be overstated, and customer support confirmed it is not designed for detailed flatbed scanning. Scan quality is poor, and it struggles even with a simple sprue. Speed is acceptable, but the value for money is not there given these limitations, making the purchase hard to justify.
Cons
- − poor scan quality
- − struggles with simple sprue
- − not designed for detailed flatbed scanning
- − accuracy claim possibly overstated
- − poor value for money

Good entry-level laser scanner with a learning curve
This is a solid entry point into laser scanning that works well but requires patience. It is not portable, needing a laptop, cables, and a power source, which is reflected in the lower price. A capable computer is required, along with real CAD modeling skills and software, since the output is a point cloud or mesh rather than a solid. If tracking issues occur out of the box, recalibrating resolves them.
Pros
- + works well
- + easiest entry point for laser scanning
- + lower price point
Cons
- − learning curve
- − not portable
- − requires a good computer
- − requires CAD modeling skills and software
- − output is a point cloud or mesh, not a solid
- − may need recalibration out of the box
